The Origins of Judo
Judo is an unarmed martial art that originated in Japan. In 1882, Dr. Jiguro Kano created a scientifically balanced system to develop the mind and body. Judo was started as a result of Dr. Kano combining the best techniques, modifying and eliminating the dangerous elements of several Jujitsu styles, allowing judokas to practice and compete at a high level without risk of serious injury. Dr. Kano gave Judo a strong moral orientation with a physical education emphasis.
